28 things // No.3

(doodle by ed<3)

The older I get the stranger it seems. I was never one of those kids that was like,"Oh boy I can't wait to get a car and get out of the house", so I think that might have been part of it and then when I met Ed at 15 he drove and I never really had a reason to learn. Ed never pushed me because he likes to keep me extra safe and never minded driving me to work.  I did take a permit test 3 years ago when my anxiety was at an all time low and I failed it. The practice test I had studied was apparently useless and I didn't know anything about driving on ice and other random things.

I'm with Ed 95% of the time and our family is pretty used to it. I sometimes wonder is it gonna be weird when I'm like 35 and my mom is still picking me up to go to lunch :3 Maybe I'll learn but as of now I have zero desire to do so.

Do you drive? are you scared of it? when did you learn?

I got my drivers license a bit over two years ago. we used to live out in the country where theres only a bus an hour (if you're lucky) and my mom didn't want to drive me around, so it was really great to be able to drive and get to places and not be dependent on the stupid bus. being home after 8 was finally possible, haha! but I totally understand why you don't need one. Now that I live in the city and I rarely need to drive, theres a bus or train every other minute to get me wherever I want :)

I've been on my Learners for 2 and a half years. It's expensive to get driving lessons so that's been a big factor in not getting my P's.
Plus my boyfriend drives so what is the point :P

I have my license but I rarely drive unless I absolutely need to. I'm perfectly fine with the hubby driving everywhere. -- Sea Marie

I always thought I was weird because I never had the desire to learn to drive when I was a teenager either! I had no choice and was forced to take driver's ed and get my license, but to this day I despise driving. If I have the option, I make sure someone else drives (typically my husband.) I've developed such a hate/fear of it, I will not drive anywhere I haven't driven before...and if I'm learning to drive to a new place, I make my husband drive me three or four times before I work up the courage to do it myself. I also never ever drive the interstate. Glad to know I'm not the only one that has no desire to drive. ;)

With my life and where I live it would be nearly impossible for me to get by without driving. I wish it wasn't that way. I'd much rather ride my bike or take a train, but it's just not practical for how things are right now.

I'm always amazed by this though and surprised. I know each person's life really has an impact on it though.

Yeah, I was one of those 'I gotta get outta here kids', we lived in a rural area....so I had to get into town. I still get scared driving though, especially with Jr. in the car...much happier to be the passenger :)

I didn't get my License until 2 days before my 17th B-day. I hated driving and was pleased to take the bus, but my dad made me. I still LOVE THE BUS!! But now I drive a mini cooper and adore its 5 speeds of awesome. I'll drive in any weather any time of day, in almost any car. I had to drive a '91 plymouth acclaim to from Tacoma to Pullman. It had bees in the trunk and mice in the back seat.

I was not very gung-ho about it when I became old enough to drive. The same reason as you! I have been with Lucas since I was 16 and he drove and I just didn't see a reason. But my mom pushed me a little and I got my license when I was 18. Now I am a driving champ! I couldn't live without my car. But I bet you are a saving a lot of money!

I do drive, and I'm terrified of it in the town I live in. It doesn't help I'm driving around a 2 year old and newborn, either. There is not one time when I go out on the road that someone doesn't cut me off, ride my tail, or speed past me. The other day a guy riding a motorcycle flew between me and the car beside me in the next lane. Stay away from driving as long as you can!

You know, I am SO happy to read this. I, too, don't have a drivers license and have no plans on getting one. Even though I'm still super young, I have had a lot of pressure from relatives to get it. It seems like people can't understand that I'm totally okay with riding around in the passenger seat and let my fiance do the driving. I'm a master when it comes to taking the bus/train and am totally comfortable with it. Thanks for this post! I think I may write my views on it as well.

I hate driving and never bothered to get my license until I turned 31. (I took the driving test on April Fool's Day!) Most of the time, I have no reason to drive, but I'd like to be more comfortable behind the wheel in case of an emergency in which my driving skills might be needed! Not that I'm in a hurry...I've lived in two more states since getting my license and have never driven in either of them!

I've had my license since I was 17, but only because I lived in small town Alberta, where everything was like, a 45 minute drive away from everything else in the dead of winter. You HAD to drive.

Now I never drive, I just walk or take public transit, and I actually developed kind of a fear of driving. It's weird!

You are not alone, as you can see in the comments. I know a bunch of adults, most of whom grew up in big cities, who don't know how to drive.

Wow this surprised me! I love driving! I own a 2007 Honda Civic SI and it's a lil race car and I love zooming around town. Driving makes me feel independent and in charge, I would be paralyzed if I couldn't drive. I feel bad for you, you don't know what your missing!
